A note on "click to cancel"

The FTC adopted a broader negative option ("click to cancel") rule in 2024, but a federal appeals court set it aside in July 2025 before it took effect (source 9). Nothing on this site relies on it. The FTC's consumer advice on cancelling subscriptions (source 2) still applies as advice.

Federal rules only. States have their own laws on automatic renewals, gym memberships, home warranties and cooling-off periods; this site does not cover them.
